In view of this, on 26 August 1974, the previous four major statistical agencies (Bureau of Statistics, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, Agricultural Census Commission and Census Commission) were abolished and the “Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics” was established.
In July 1975, the Statistics Department was formed under the Ministry of Planning for administrative control. Later, the Statistics Department was converted into the Statistics and Information Management Department. The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics is currently working under this department.
